Piotr Żelaznowski

Designer based in Gdańsk, Poland

I work in the fields of architecture and urbanism. I specialize in crafting development visions of urban areas and other spaces. With the support of a tailored team, I provide visionary solutions for complex urban planning projects locally in Poland and around the world. With each commission, I create a bespoke team of renowned specialists, tailored to the project’s unique requirements and the clients’ needs.

What matters to me?

Relationships

They are priceless and last longer than our contracts or projects. My priority is to build a good relationship with the team and become an integral part of it.

What can you expect?

Commitment

While working with me, you will experience that even the most challenging situations can turn into creative solutions.

What distinguishes me?

Experience. International and wide-range

I have worked in very different scopes on projects for real estate developers and city authorities. I have worked on architectural projects covering ensembles ranging from 30 thousand square meters to schemes of more than 1.5 million square meters of GFA. I have also worked on masterplanning projects covering areas of a few square kilometres. I have worked on different aspects ranging from calculations & file management, to massing studies, design guidelines, floorplans, façade design, CGIs and animations.

I actively took part in over 30 projects covering more than 20 million square meters of GFA. I have participated in 15 different workshops and conferences in Poland, Germany, Ireland and Norway. I have worked with people from more than 20 nationalities. I have visited more than 20 countries and over 60 cities worldwide. I co-authored two publications about Baltic cities. I have lived, worked and studied abroad in Australia, Italy and the Netherlands.

Approach

It’s not about the goal, it’s about the path…

Diversity

An architect knows something about everything…

I see diversity in people, buildings, functions and approaches – it encourages to explore

Understanding diversity plays an important role in my life. I see it in people that I encounter and work with, in buildings and spaces that form our cities, and in different approaches and routes that I can take to find the right answers to my questions. I embrace it by learning and operating in different software, scales, design stages.

Besides my activity in academic clubs, NGOs and city consultancy, I also took part in over a dozen workshops and congresses around Europe, where I had a chance to work with and listen to people representing many different interests, professions and approaches to architecture and urbanism.

I worked with different teams on workshops, buildings, masterplans and strategies for developers, governments, institutions and small communities. Our proposals always embraced diversity in team, programme and qualities.

Integrity

More than sum of its parts

I see integrity as a hybrid emerging through collaboration, and turning diversity into unique ideas

Diversity alone is just a gateway to designing. The team is more than sum of its members, just like cities are more than a sum of their buildings, and a strategy than sum of the approaches. I see integrity as a hybrid that emerges, where through people’s collaboration, the socio-economic, programmatic and spatial aspects come together, turning diversity into a unique, integral design response.

Working for different stakeholders taught me integral thinking needed to precisely target their diverse needs. It also helped me to understand the complexity of contemporary cities and how to turn this into coherent systems.

Currently I am researching the potentials of hybrid programming and how integral thinking about functional diversity can lead into new urban synergies. I am also exploring the methods of decarbonizing AEC industry and how they can become integral part of the future design process.

Atmosphere

How to communicate with people?

I focus on people and atmosphere – within the team, in the images and animations I create, and in presentations I give

Diversity, when integrated to a design, needs to turn into a story. I learned how to communicate the ideas through images, animations and presentations. I often joined the project team to help with the final outcomes. Most often I use Lumion and Photoshop. During the work I focus on people and atmosphere.

Good vibes in the team are equally important as everyone’s talents. The atmosphere is not only something I care about in the images, but also between the people I work with.
